The Celadon-inspired glazes create fine nuances, varying depths and lively transitions. It is precisely these small differences that give each piece its own character. On the table, this creates a calm yet lively overall picture: colours can be combined without having to match exactly. This lets you put your place setting together again and again – understated, individual and with a special depth in the surface.

FROM ART OBJECT TO EVERYDAY OBJECT

ELEPHANT FEET goes back to the work of the porcelain artist Emanuel Boos. For many years he has been exploring Celadon glazes and how minerals, temperature and atmosphere in the kiln change colour and surface. Small test vessels from his artistic work developed, together with MAOMI, into a tableware collection. The characteristic foot shape and the deliberately irregular proportions preserve something of this origin. A plate, a bowl or a cup remains an everyday object – yet at the same time it has the presence of a small sculptural object.

COLOURS THAT LIVE TOGETHER

The colours of ELEPHANT FEET are designed to be combined with one another. Light, greenish and bluish nuances create different moods without making the table look restless. You can choose one colour or freely combine different glazes. Precisely because no shade turns out exactly the same, the result is a place setting with depth and personality – and no two tables look exactly alike.

Why does every ELEPHANT FEET glaze look slightly different?

The special effect of ELEPHANT FEET comes precisely from the fine differences in the glazes. During firing, minerals, temperature and atmosphere react with one another, so shade, depth and flow can vary slightly. No piece is exactly like the next. On the set table, this creates a lively, individual overall picture.

What is a Celadon glaze?

Celadon refers to a glazing technique rich in tradition that originated in China. It is characterised by transparent to translucent glazes with great depth of colour, often in greenish nuances. For ELEPHANT FEET, this tradition provides the design inspiration for the special effect of colour and surface.

Where do the unusual shapes of ELEPHANT FEET come from?

The shapes go back to small test vessels from the artistic work of Emanuel Boos. From this exploration of glaze, firing process and form, a whole tableware series was developed together with MAOMI. The deliberately organic proportions and the characteristic foot shape give plates, bowls and cups their sculptural character.

Who is behind the design of ELEPHANT FEET?

ELEPHANT FEET is based on the œuvre of the porcelain artist Dr. Emanuel Boos and was developed further into a tableware collection together with MAOMI. His many years of work with Celadon glazes, minerals and firing processes form the artistic starting point of the series.

Is ELEPHANT FEET dishwasher- and microwave-safe?

Yes. ELEPHANT FEET is dishwasher- and microwave-safe and therefore fits easily into everyday life.

Can I combine different colours of ELEPHANT FEET?

Yes. The interplay of the different glazes is part of the collection's character. The shades are chosen so that they look calm on their own and can also be combined with one another. This lets you extend your place setting step by step or put it together anew again and again.

Can I buy more ELEPHANT FEET tableware later to add to my set?

In principle, the shapes and colours currently available can be added later. As the glazes show natural variations in the firing process, a piece bought later may differ slightly in shade and surface from pieces you already own. It is precisely these nuances that are part of the collection's character. In addition, individual shapes or colours may change over time or be discontinued.
